FLORA OF PENCH TIGER RESERVE

The flora of Pench Tiger Reserve is a vibrant blend of dry deciduous forests, riverine vegetation, and mixed woodlands that together create one of Central India’s richest forest ecosystems. Dominated by Teak (Tectona grandis), the reserve features vast stretches of teak forests that form the backbone of Pench’s vegetation.

Common tree species include Mahua, Saja, Bija, Tendu, Dhaora, Palash, Haldu, and Bel, each contributing to the forest’s ecological balance. Riverine belts along the Pench River consist of Arjun, Jamun, Ber, and Mango trees, forming ideal habitats for birdlife and herbivores.

The forest floor is covered with grasses, shrubs, medicinal plants, and climbers. Natural meadows enhance the biodiversity by offering open grazing areas for herbivores. From dense teak woods to colorful Palash blooms, Pench’s flora makes this reserve visually stunning and ecologically rich.

FAUNA OF PENCH TIGER RESERVE

Pench Tiger Reserve is famous for its rich and diverse fauna, including a thriving population of Royal Bengal Tigers, Indian Leopards, and Wild Dogs (Dholes). These predators are often spotted in various zones, making Pench a hotspot for wildlife enthusiasts.

Herbivores such as Chital, Sambar, Nilgai, Gaur, Four-horned Antelope, Barking Deer, and Wild Boar form the prey base that sustains large carnivores. Smaller carnivores include Hyenas, Jackals, Civets, Jungle Cats, Ratel, and Foxes.

With 300+ bird species like Indian Pitta, Crested Serpent Eagle, Malabar Pied Hornbill, Kingfishers, and Flycatchers, Pench is a paradise for bird lovers. Reptiles such as Pythons, Monitor Lizards, Cobras, and Kraits also thrive here.

Together, this rich wildlife makes Pench Tiger Reserve one of Central India’s most biodiverse and thrilling jungles to explore.
